John Garrido was born on November 18th, 1967 in Chicago to Cheryl Bridgette Lynn and John Anthony Garrido. He lived in Chicago until moving to Hanover Park at the age of 12. John graduated from Streamwood High School in 1985.
John and his wife of 17 years, have lived in the 45th Ward for over 13 years and they have three dogs.
John joined the Chicago Police Department in 1991. For over 24 years, John has worked hard to serve the citizens of Chicago. Working on the Westside of Chicago for most of his career, John has seen first hand the effects of drugs and violence on a community. John has worked as a patrol man; an under cover narcotic buy officer; a violent crimes detective; a homicide sergeant and currently works as a lieutenant in the 16th District.
After joining the police department with only a high school education, John went back to school part-time to get his bachelor’s degree from Lewis University in 2001 and then his J.D. from The John Marshall Law School in 2006. John was admitted to the Bar later in 2006. In addition to his work as a police officer, John is a practicing attorney with Northwest Legal Service,LLP (5310 N. Harlem Ave.) that he and his police department part ner established in August of 2006.
In 2011 John joined the Board of Directors for the Gladstone Park Chamber of Commerce. John was honored by the Chamber as their 2012 Member of the Year. John continues to work with his fellow chamber members to improve the community and attract new business to the Gladstone Park neighborhood.
In 2013 John established the a battle of the bands charity event called Rock the Badges. This first ever fundraising event put Chicago Police Bands against Chicago Fire Bands to raise money for two great charities; raising almost $12,000.00 to be split between the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation and Ignite the Spirit.
Also in 2013 John joined the Jefferson Park Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, thereby expanding his efforts to improve economic development in the Jefferson Park neighborhood and working with fellow chamber members on the increasingly successful Jeff Park Arts & Music Festival.
